Actions of the Web Accessibility Initiative

General actions:

The Web Accessibility Initiative was created in 1996 by the World Wide Web Consortium, W3C. Today WAI has more than 500 members. WAI's Members come from the industry, organisations from people with disabilities, research organisations and government.

WAI works in five different areas:
  1. Web Technologies;
  2. development of guidelines;
  3. development of tools;
  4. education and outreach;
  5. research and development.

For more details on WAI read the WAI overview on their Web site.

The W3C and WAI work in the whole world through the W3C offices settled in different countries from the five continents. WAI's actions in Europe are pursued through different projects including the WAI-DA project, Web Accessibility Initiative and Design for All.

The WAI TIES project

WAI-TIES is a European project funded by the European Commission. It is co-ordinated
by W3C and ERCIM. BrailleNet is the
