General DescriptionLast June 11th, 2006, In Riga, the Ministerial Conference “ICT for an inclusive society”of the European Council and of the European Commission, in the presence of European Commissioner for Information Society and Media Mrs Viviane Reding, uanimously approved a declaration recognising as a priority the necessity to fully implement “the eAccessibility provisions in EU legislation on electronic communications and terminal equipment and using all other instruments available, from voluntary industry commitments to new legal provisions at EU and national level where appropriate [...] and the effectiveness of these various instruments needs to be regularly assessed.” On the other hand the requirements for eAccessibility are often understood as excessive burden on industrial development. This workshop will show that the demand for universal design, expressed by the citizen with disabilities in all fields (employment, education, information, culture, shopping, …), constitutes a challenge that may lead researchers and industrial developers to invent robust and sustainable solutions, and particularly in the ICT domain. Participants will be also offered an unique opportunity to be presented authoring solutions and techniques that can help the creation of contents and services respecting the Design for All principles The invited speakers are from organisations representing users and consumers with disabilities, research organisations and industrial companies. Concrete case studies will be discussed. There will be an opportunity to hear first-hand about the experiences from users with disabilities, purchasers and members of the Information and electronic communication industry.
