Job Offer - Software Development (15-Feb-2008)

Objective

The objective is to develop a complete secured digital library system for people with print disabilities, incorporating recent Daisy specifications and technologies, released by software companies, open source communities or the Daisy Consortium itself.

This system will make possible :

• to standardise contents according the Daisy XML standard (ANSI/NISO Z39.86). Contents are structured texts including footnotes, commented images, tables, math formulas;
• to convert these contents into different output formats corresponding to different users' profiles (Braille, XHTML, PDF, etc.);
• to distribute them on different platform for print, embossing, and dynamic display;
• to comply with standard secured exchange protocols;
• to allow access from mobile platforms (GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, ...);

The development will be based on the experience of a digital library run by the Association BrailleNet in France.

Context

The mission involves discussions and follow up with partner organisations in user organisations, research organisations, and industrial companies (Alacatel-Lucent, Adobe, Microsoft, Eurobraille …), and with the Daisy Consortium, as well.

Location

The mission is to be carried out at Association Braillenet, Paris, France. If necessary, technical meetings could take place in other locations involving travels.

Duration

One year (minimum)

Technical knowledge required

The candidate should master :

• Computer Language: Perl, Web techniques
• Linux
• SQL
• XML/XSLT
• Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)

Experience in the following techniques will be usefull  :

• SSH
• Digital Certification , OpenSSL
• Apache / MySQL
• Accessibility Guidelines (W3C/WAI ; Adobe, Daisy)
• Techniques developed by the Daisy Consortium
